The social media ban in Nepal officially started on September 4, 2025. On this date, the government ordered the shutdown of 26 social media platforms for failing to register under new rules from the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology. This decision came after major platforms failed to comply with Nepal's directive to register with the government, with a seven-day deadline expiring that week.
