"Nepo Kid," short for nepotism, is a term borrowed from Hollywood and Bollywood that has been re-tooled in Nepal to describe the offspring of prime ministers, ministers, and lawmakers who appear to enjoy perks without merit. This campaign, popular in TikTok videos and Reddit threads, exposes the lavish lifestyles of political families—including luxury cars, foreign degrees, and Instagrammed holidays—contrasting them with the daily struggles of ordinary young Nepalis, many of whom must seek work abroad. The popularity of the "Nepo Kid" campaign highlights frustration with entrenched corruption and widening inequality. For Gen Z in Nepal, these posts effectively translate abstract critiques of inequality into highly visual, emotionally charged stories. Targets of this campaign have included the families of Prime Minister Oli, former Prime Ministers Sher Bahadur Deuba and Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', and other political figures, showing their extravagant consumption against a backdrop of soaring inflation and unemployment for the general public.
